SHANNON UNDERWOOD

School Board Member

Shannon Underwood’s career in education and community service began early. In middle school, he worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District’s summer program. He continued his work with youth throughout high school as a junior counselor and later a counselor for an outdoor education program, where he taught 4th through 6th graders about marine life and environmental science. A key part of his work was also helping students learn how to interact with people from different backgrounds.

In 2007, Mr. Underwood began working in the IT department for the Garden Grove Unified School District, where he provided technical support to students, teachers, and administrators. This background — working directly with students and later providing technical support behind the scenes — prepared him for his current role on the School Board for Bethany Christian Academy (BCA) and Bethany Christian Preschool (BCP).

A member of Bethany Bible Fellowship for more than four years, Mr. Underwood believes that Christ is the firm foundation for life, and he is a strong supporter of Christian education. He has been married for more than 20 years and has two children. He and his family live in Los Alamitos, and his hobbies include spending time with family, visiting new places, exercising, and studying medical science.
