EMMA STILES WINS THIRD PLACE FOR CALIFORNIA IN THE PATRIOT'S PEN YOUTH ESSAY CONTEST

Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsors Patriot's Pen, a national youth essay contest open to students in grades six through eight. The contest was created to encourage students to have a better understanding and appreciation of America and patriotism. The theme for the 2018 Patriot's Pen was "Why I Honor the American Flag."
This year, BCA students swept first, second, and third place in this competition at the local level, VFW Post 9557. The winners of the local contest then advance to the VFW District level. Seventh grader Brayden Nguyen earned first place, sixth grader Emma Stiles earned second place, and eighth grader Annie Wagoner earned third place. Brayden and Emma advanced to the district level, where Emma earned first place! She then advanced to the state level, where she earned third place for all of California! Way to go, Emma!
